Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th 1964) is an American lawyer and politician who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. She is also the first female vice president and the highest ranking female official of the United States. A member of Democratic Party, she has been attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017, and as an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to her move to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. In 2010, she was elected Attorney General of California and re-elected in 2014. From 2017 to 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the 2nd African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. She was a senator , and advocated for healthcare reform and federal cannabis de-scheduling. She also advocated for the possibility of citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented as well as the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She is best known for her pointed questions of Trump administration officials in Senate hearings.
